About the circuit

Information updated: 2026-10-2

Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is in Mexico City. Its altitude of more than 2000 metres is a defining condition that sets it apart from most F1 circuits: thin air affects aerodynamic load, cooling and power-unit operation simultaneously. Fast straights connect medium- and low-speed corners with the stadium section, demanding both straight-line speed and stability in slower areas.

Circuit history

The circuit was built in 1959. It hosted a non-championship F1 race in 1962 and its first world championship round in 1963. After periods of absence, the Mexican Grand Prix returned to F1 in 2015, with the new layout retaining the stadium section’s distinctive spectator experience.

Circuit characteristics

The heavy-braking zone at the end of the main straight is a key place to attack and defend, with several cars alongside one another at the start creating a risk of conflicting lines. Even with higher-downforce settings, teams may not achieve the grip available at lower-altitude circuits; brake, power-unit and tyre temperatures must be managed together. The slow stadium corners demand precise steering, sharply contrasting with the fast sections in the first half of the lap.
