From an uncertain seat to a new team
Dan Ticktum said in a Formula E interview published on November 7 that he feared a few months earlier he might not have a seat. Several offers followed, with Fortescue Zero consistently his preferred choice. The new team is preparing for GEN4 after acquiring the PENSKE operation.
Ticktum acknowledged that people might judge his speed and his representation of a brand differently. He wants to use the opportunity to prove doubters wrong.
Simulator work centres on Jaguar systems
The operation came together in about two months, and Ticktum had been with it for only a few weeks. He said he was using the simulator as much as possible to understand Jaguar's systems and settle into the new environment. He finds the quality of the people and investment encouraging.
Fortescue Zero grew from the Williams Advanced Engineering business and is Formula E's PIT BOOST supplier. Running a team takes it from providing technology to organising a complete racing operation.
New-car complexity puts problem-solving first
GEN4 features permanent all-wheel drive, output of up to 600kW and high-downforce and low-drag aerodynamic packages for different requirements. Formula E presents it as a new technical phase, requiring teams to adapt to a different car and systems.
Ticktum expects teething problems across the field because the car is not simple. He says his job is to provide the best feedback possible, work through data quickly with the team and resolve issues.
Madrid pre-season testing on November 16–20 will provide longer continuous running. Ticktum drove GEN4 at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed hillclimb, finishing second on the timing sheet, and has had some running since. That gives him confidence, but he still wants more consecutive laps around Jarama.
