Honda HRC confirmed on November 5 that Jake Dixon will replace Joan Mir at this weekend’s MotoGP Qatar Grand Prix alongside Luca Marini. Mir returned at Sepang last weekend but withdrew from the Malaysian Grand Prix and will continue recovering at home.

The announcement settles Honda’s replacement line-up for Qatar. Dixon races for the factory Honda WorldSBK team this season and will now return to a MotoGP machine. Honda did not give a date for Mir’s next comeback.

Mir continues his recovery as Dixon returns

Dixon spent 2019 to 2025 in the Grand Prix paddock, collecting seven Moto2 wins and 22 podiums. He also made two MotoGP starts as Franco Morbidelli’s replacement in 2021, with a best finish of 19th at Silverstone.

Honda described an injury-affected 2026 WorldSBK campaign for Dixon, followed by five top-ten finishes on the CBR1000RR-R SP later in the season. Dixon said he intended to approach his MotoGP return steadily, build familiarity step by step and wished Mir well in his recovery.

Marini hopes to carry forward his Malaysian Grand Prix performance. In Honda’s preview he said his physical condition had improved after a short visit home and pledged to give his best over the final three rounds. He also highlighted the benefit of having Mir in the garage.

The Qatar round takes place at Lusail on November 6–8 local time. MotoGP FP1 begins at 19:45 Beijing time on November 6, with the race starting at midnight as November 8 turns into November 9 in Beijing. Friday’s first outing begins Dixon’s substitute assignment.

INKA SPORTS Analysis and Summary: adaptation comes first

Dixon brings Grand Prix experience and familiarity with Honda’s WorldSBK programme, but his last MotoGP race was five years ago. His stated focus on gradual adaptation fits the circumstances of a temporary return. WorldSBK top-ten finishes alone cannot establish a MotoGP qualifying or race expectation.

Honda therefore has two strands to its weekend: continuity for Marini and renewed MotoGP familiarisation for Dixon. Mir’s eventual return remains for the team to confirm; the present announcement establishes its two-rider line-up for Qatar.
