Alex Marquez has confirmed that he underwent surgery at Madrid’s Ruber Internacional Hospital. In the rider’s account published by MotoGP on November 3, he said fixation material had been removed from his right collarbone and left hand the previous day. An arthroscopic bursectomy of his right shoulder was performed during the same operation.

The announcement confirms the outcome of the surgery plan reported earlier. The Gresini rider took pole position in Malaysia and finished third in Sunday’s Grand Prix. After the podium celebrations, he announced that he would travel to Madrid for treatment, aiming to return to racing in Portugal.

MotoGP reported that the surgery was successful. A Portugal comeback remains the rider’s objective, however, and does not constitute confirmed medical clearance. The update provides neither a specific recovery period nor a guarantee that he will be race-fit for that event.

The current MotoGP calendar places the Portuguese Grand Prix on November 20–22. The new development is that the planned treatment has taken place; the next matters to establish are his recovery and actual eligibility to compete.
