Marc Marquez won the MotoGP Qatar Sprint on November 7 after a red flag and restart. He completed the revised ten-lap race in 18m46.450s, finishing 0.862s ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio. Jorge Martin recovered from 11th on the grid to third, 1.519s behind.
First start: Bezzecchi leads as Ducati team mates trade places
At the initial start, polesitter Bezzecchi launched strongly and held off Marc Marquez’s challenge from the middle of the front row. Bagnaia joined the fight ahead, briefly passing his Ducati team mate at Turn 2 before Marquez cut back on the exit to reclaim the position. Martin, starting 11th, made no positional progress for most of that first lap; his later charge had yet to begin.
A final-corner crash brings the red flag
At Turn 16, the final corner of lap one, Aldeguer attempted an inside pass on Acosta but braked too late and struck Bagnaia’s bike ahead, throwing the Ducati rider from the seat. Officials stopped the race with a red flag as Bagnaia was carried from the gravel on a stretcher. MotoGP reported that he was conscious and talking before being taken to the medical centre. He did not restart. Aldeguer received a double long-lap penalty for the restarted race, requiring two trips through the designated longer penalty route.
Ten-lap restart: contact changes the lead battle
The restarted race ran over ten laps. This time Marquez led away, followed by Bezzecchi and Di Giannantonio. Martin rose to sixth on the opening lap, passed Raul Fernandez for fifth and then advanced to fourth. At Turn 15 on lap two, Bezzecchi attacked Marquez, but the Ducati rider retained the lead.

Later in their battle, Marquez ran slightly wide and Bezzecchi tried to use the opening. As Marquez returned to his line for a late apex, the pair touched and Bezzecchi crashed out. The stewards deemed it a racing incident and took no further action. Marquez continued in the lead, while Bezzecchi left the Sprint without points despite starting from pole.
Martin’s injured charge ends with a last-lap change for second
Martin was racing with a right wrist fractured in Australia just two weeks earlier, yet recovered from 11th to challenge Marquez for the lead. In Ducati’s post-race release, Marquez explained that contact with Bezzecchi had triggered his airbag, leaving him to wait four or five corners before pushing again. He increased his pace when he saw Martin closing. With three laps left, the lead had grown to about 0.8s and Martin had to defend against Di Giannantonio. The Italian passed him at Turn 2 on the last lap to take second, leaving Martin third.
Raul Fernandez finished fourth and Zarco fifth. Acosta beat Ogura to sixth by 0.194s, with Bastianini and Lecuona taking the final points positions. Aldeguer completed both long laps and finished 11th. The classification for the restarted race lists Bagnaia as not started.
A 49-point margin creates Sunday’s title scenario
Marquez earned 12 points, extending his lead over Martin from 44 to 49, with Bezzecchi 79 behind. MotoGP’s stated title scenario requires Marquez to win Sunday’s Grand Prix and Martin to score no points for the eighth premier-class championship to be secured in Qatar. The race is scheduled for November 8 at 19.00 local time, or 16.00 UTC.
