About the circuit

The Ayrton Senna International Circuit in Goiânia is the venue for the 2026 MotoGP Brazilian round. Located inland in Brazil, it uses the full mixed layout incorporating the infield corners, rather than only the outer loop. Away from the main straight, the successive changes of direction in the middle section tighten the rhythm, requiring riders to balance attacking opportunities at the end of the long straight against exit quality in the infield corners.

Circuit history

The circuit opened in 1974, first hosted a motorcycle Grand Prix world championship event in 1987, and held races from 1987 to 1989. Brazil later hosted Grands Prix at other venues, so the return of the Brazilian round and the return to Goiânia do not describe the same interval. Following redevelopment, Goiânia rejoined the MotoGP calendar in 2026. This page uses the official dimensions for that event, not the old length marked on historical maps.

Circuit characteristics

The official 2026 information lists a lap length of 3835 metres and 14 corners, with 5 left-handers and 9 right-handers, and a longest straight of 994 metres. Maps exist for the outer loop, short layout and mixed layout; when choosing a map, check whether the infield section that doubles back is included. The long straight encourages slipstreaming, but the linked infield corners require riders to prepare their position for the next turn earlier. A straight-line speed advantage alone may not compensate for mistakes in the turning sections.

What to watch

  1. Before watching the start-finish straight, look back at the exits of the last few corners. The rider who gets the bike upright sooner may establish an advantage at the start of the straight; the finish-line speed reading cannot explain this difference on its own.
  2. In the middle infield section, consider adjacent corners together. Taking the inside at the first but losing a suitable entry to the second may only exchange positions temporarily. Do not judge an attack or defence from one apex alone.
  3. When reviewing the 2026 Grand Prix, keep the shortened race in mind. Because of track conditions, the organisers reduced the race from the planned 31 laps to 23. The total distance and tyre mileage therefore differ from the full 31-lap plan.

Checked on 2026-09-23. Lap counts, Sprint distance and Grand Prix distance are event information for this season, not permanent circuit attributes. If the organisers alter a race because of weather, track conditions or a red flag, the event announcements and final results take precedence.

Common points of confusion

The actual 2026 Grand Prix ran for 23 laps and 88.21 kilometres. This was the shortened distance for that event, not a limit restricting the circuit to 23-lap races. The historical map is only an aid to understanding the outline; its old 3.82-kilometre label is not a current parameter.

When comparing lap times, distinguish lap records set in sessions such as qualifying from the fastest race lap: they are not interchangeable. Times from different layouts, wet and dry conditions, or different classes cannot be compared directly either.
