Aston Martin drivers Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso together during the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Aston Martin confirmed on 29 September that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will continue racing for the team in 2027. Both have extended their partnerships with the team. It will be their fifth consecutive F1 season together, confirming both of the team’s race seats for next year.

F1’s official website reported that the two drivers had made a combined 644 race starts, making them the most experienced pairing on the grid by that measure at the time of the announcement. Alonso’s future had previously been uncertain, with the team struggling this year and sitting tenth in the constructors’ standings at the time. In its announcement, Aston Martin said continuity would help it focus on development and make use of the working relationships already established between the drivers and the team.

In the team statement, Alonso said he had taken time to consider the extension and still believed he had the speed and determination to compete at the highest level. He expressed confidence in what the team was building and praised its existing leadership, people, partners and facilities. Stroll said progress across the departments at the Silverstone base had motivated him to continue contributing to the project.

Executive chairman Lawrence Stroll said both drivers’ experience and understanding of the car were valuable to the entire team. Aston Martin still needs to improve its on-track performance in the short term, while its longer-term objective is to become capable of fighting for wins.
