Andreeva plays a shot in the China Open quarter-final on October 8, 2026.

Mirra Andreeva beat 19th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 7–6(4), 7–6(3) in one hour and 53 minutes in the China Open women’s singles quarter-finals on the evening of October 8, reaching the event’s semi-finals for the first time. WTA says it was her first victory in three tour meetings after losing both previous encounters without a set.

Unable to close out the second set early, Andreeva pulls clear in the tie-break

After winning the opening tie-break, Andreeva built a 4–1 lead in the second set and served for the match at 5–3, but Alexandrova recovered to another tie-break. A forehand winner put Andreeva 3–2 ahead there and she controlled it for 7–3.

She said pressure remained despite the lead, acknowledging unused opportunities and room for aggression while praising Alexandrova. Two tie-breaks show a lead did not make closure straightforward.

Both broke four times. Andreeva converted four of seven chances, Alexandrova four of ten. Andreeva landed 62% of first serves, won 71% behind them and hit 23 winners with sixteen unforced errors.
