Official WTA portrait of Chwalińska, not the Wuhan final or trophy presentation

Chwalińska beat Kartal 2–6, 6–4, 6–2 in the Wuhan Open final on October 18, taking two hours 43 minutes to claim her first career WTA tour title. After losing the opener and going a break down in the second, she recovered to lift a WTA 1000 trophy.

From 0–2 in the second, Chwalińska converts her fifth break chance

Kartal took the opener 6–2 and led the second 2–0. Chwalińska sought an immediate break-back; after Kartal saved four chances, the Polish player converted the fifth to get back on serve.

The set lasted 71 minutes, with Chwalińska winning 6–4 to force a decider.

Five consecutive deciding-set games, but a final-game test

Chwalińska broke decisively for 3–2 and won the last five games for 6–2. She still had to save three break points while serving for the match before converting her position into the title.

She said in the press conference that her initial energy had been low and Kartal's play restricted her. As the match progressed, she became more aggressive and improved depth. That is her explanation, corresponding with the second-set recovery and third-set lead.

A first tour title at 1000 level

WTA noted that since the present tiers began in 2009, Chwalińska is the fourth player to win her first tour title at WTA 1000 level. The predecessors are Naomi Osaka at Indian Wells in 2018, Bianca Andreescu there in 2019 and Victoria Mboko in Montreal in 2025.
