Team Profile
From the 2003 debut to a championship-winning works team
Ducati’s MotoGP works team is operated directly by the manufacturer, with its racing department in Bologna, Italy, providing the technical base. Ducati entered modern MotoGP in 2003 and won a Grand Prix in its first season. In 2007, Casey Stoner delivered the brand’s first premier-class riders’ world title, alongside constructors’ and teams’ titles.
Competition subsequently involved fluctuations and prolonged development. Francesco Bagnaia won consecutive riders’ titles in 2022 and 2023, while Marc Márquez became champion as a Ducati works rider in 2025. By the end of 2025, Ducati had won six consecutive constructors’ titles. The brand’s centenary in 2026 is marked by a deep-red works-bike livery.
The works role of the Desmosedici GP
The 2026 platform is the Ducati Desmosedici GP26, continuously developed by Ducati’s racing department. The works team links development, testing and racing, with rider feedback entering the manufacturer’s technical work. In competition, aerodynamic configuration, setup and circuit conditions jointly affect bike performance.
Ducati also supplies Gresini and VR46, giving the brand three teams and six full-time riders in 2026. Each team scores independently in the teams’ standings, while constructors’ points are taken from results by riders on the same brand according to the sporting rules. This scale allows viewers to compare several riders’ use of Ducati machinery during one race weekend.
Two champions in the 2026 line-up
The race pairing is number 93 Marc Márquez and number 63 Francesco Bagnaia. Entering the 2026 season, they have nine MotoGP premier-class riders’ titles between them: seven for Márquez and two for Bagnaia. They bring championship experience accumulated in different periods and face a direct, clear comparison across the garage.
Ducati’s racing department, led by Luigi Dall’Igna, sets the technical direction, while the works team continues its racing work around the Desmosedici GP. Its season affects the riders’ title contests, the combined two-bike team result and constructors’ results for the whole Ducati group.
What to watch
The two champions provide the most immediate comparison: who finds a setup direction sooner on the same circuit, and who is more consistent in qualifying and the race? Comparisons with Gresini and VR46 riders further reveal the works team’s competitiveness across circuits. As viewing analysis, strong results from both bikes better reflect execution across a whole weekend; one bike’s victory needs to be understood alongside the circumstances on the other side of the garage.
