From the Rookies Cup straight into title contention
Pedro Acosta comes from the Murcia region of Spain. He developed in domestic junior racing and won the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2020. Entering the Moto3 world championship with Ajo in 2021, he reached the podium at the start of the season and then won in Doha after starting from pit lane.
Winning the Moto3 world title in his rookie season brought particular attention to his progression. After moving to Moto2 in 2022, he continued winning and earned Rookie of the Year. Seven victories delivered another world title in 2023, giving him two championships in three full Grand Prix seasons.
A MotoGP rookie and promotion to the factory team
In 2024, Acosta entered MotoGP with Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 on KTM-based machinery. He took two podiums in his first three Grands Prix and ended the season with five Grand Prix podiums and sixth overall, demonstrating a rapid adaptation.
He joined Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in 2025, continued fighting for podiums late in the season and finished fourth overall. Moving from rapid success in the junior classes to racing experienced premier-class rivals placed speed, race management and year-round consistency in a new competitive environment.
The 2026 Red Bull KTM line-up
In 2026, Acosta continues on the number 37 KTM RC16 alongside Brad Binder. This is his third MotoGP season and second in the factory team, with existing experience providing a basis for continued cooperation between rider and technical staff.
Binder has spent many years at KTM, while Acosta progressed to the premier class after developing through the same manufacturer’s junior racing system. Their different ages, years of participation and notable results provide a clear background to the two sides of the factory garage.
What to watch
Overtaking under braking, corner-entry lines and changes in lap times after close battles offer ways to watch Acosta. Consider the positions gained through attacking alongside tyre performance and whether he finishes, then compare him with Binder and the two Tech3 riders to understand how speed at an individual event translates into results across a whole weekend.
