From Rookies Cup winner to Moto3 world champion

Spanish rider Jorge Martín began competing in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2012 and won the series in 2014. After entering the Moto3 world championship in 2015, he gained experience on Mahindra machinery before joining Gresini. His first Grand Prix victory came in 2017, followed by the Moto3 world title with seven wins in 2018.

Martín moved up to Moto2 with Ajo in 2019 and took wins and podiums in his second season. He joined Pramac Ducati in 2021, securing pole position and a podium on only his second MotoGP race weekend. Later that year, he claimed his first premier-class win at the Styrian Grand Prix in Austria and earned Rookie of the Year.

Sprint strength and the 2024 world title

In 2023, Martín won four Grands Prix and nine Sprints, taking the title fight to the final round and finishing runner-up. He again contested the championship with Francesco Bagnaia in 2024, with three Grand Prix victories and sixteen Grand Prix podiums helping him seal the title at the Barcelona finale.

That title came from an independent-team seat at Pramac Ducati. Taken together, the two seasons show how Martín combined speed over short races with consistent scoring across the year. A championship is built from every points-paying opportunity, with the number of wins only one component.

The 2026 Aprilia chapter

Martín joined the Aprilia factory team in 2025, but injuries caused him to miss several race weekends and significantly disrupted his first season of adaptation. In 2026 he remains alongside Marco Bezzecchi on the number 89 Aprilia RS-GP26, continuing his new manufacturer partnership.

Compared with the Ducati environment he knew, this chapter involves a new motorcycle platform and new garage relationships. Consider his established title-winning experience separately from his adaptation to the RS-GP, then compare the two Aprilia riders at the same weekend.

What to watch

Martín has an outstanding qualifying record in both Moto3 and MotoGP, making grid position and the opening laps immediate points of interest. Beyond the Sprint, follow lap times and tyre performance through the middle and final stages of a Grand Prix to see whether an early advantage lasts to the finish. Consistently securing high scores is also an important thread in his 2024 title campaign.
