From Brazil to European junior racing
Diogo Moreira comes from the São Paulo area of Brazil and developed through the European Talent Cup, junior racing and the Red Bull Rookies Cup. He began his first full Moto3 world-championship season in 2022, taking a pole position and Rookie of the Year. His first world-championship Grand Prix victory followed in Indonesia in 2023.
He moved to Moto2 with Italtrans in 2024 and again earned Rookie of the Year. Progressing through successive classes helped him adapt to larger-capacity bikes, different tyres and longer races, building the foundation for a championship challenge.
The 2025 Moto2 world champion
Moreira took his first Moto2 win at Assen in 2025, then continued winning and closing the championship gap. With four victories and nine podiums, he secured the world title at the Valencia finale, becoming the first Brazilian rider to win a Grand Prix world championship.
The title was both a personal achievement and a new milestone for Brazilian riders in the world championship. His pursuit from mid-season to clinching the title at the final round illustrates the importance of sustained scoring over several events and execution in decisive races.
A Honda LCR rookie in 2026
In 2026, Moreira enters MotoGP with number 11, riding the Honda RC213V for Honda LCR on the side of the garage entered under the Pro Honda name. Teammate Johann Zarco provides a racing reference with many years of premier-class experience.
Moving from Moto2 champion to MotoGP means adapting to a new prototype motorcycle, tyres and two points-paying races on the same weekend. His junior-class achievements remain part of his record, while each premier-class weekend’s practice, qualifying, Sprint and Grand Prix presents a new learning stage.
What to watch
Start with Moreira’s progress within a weekend: does he gradually reduce the gap in practice, secure a better grid position in qualifying and maintain lap times in the second half of the race? Then compare him with Zarco and the Honda factory riders to separate individual adaptation from Honda’s overall performance at that event.
