Liverpool players celebrate against Brighton on October 25, 2026

Liverpool beat Brighton 2–0 at home in the Premier League on October 25, securing a fourth consecutive win in all competitions and moving up to fourth in the table. A Gross own goal and an Isak strike both came in the first half, with Liverpool preserving their two-goal advantage and clean sheet after the break.

Opportunities after an incomplete clearance and a block establish the first-half lead

Liverpool's official match report recorded four changes to the starting lineup from the midweek Champions League match, with Isak, Wirtz, Kerkez and Barcola returning. Early on, Gakpo's curling shot was gathered by Verbruggen. Brighton's Ayari missed a chance from Gross' cutback in the 14th minute.

Liverpool then opened the scoring. Araújo's cross was not fully cleared and Wirtz collected the ball before shooting low, with the ball going in off Gross for an own goal. Verbruggen subsequently denied Gakpo again, but the hosts soon doubled their lead.

The second goal began with Barcola blocking Boscagli's clearance. He chased the loose ball, evaded a challenge and passed for Isak to score from close range. Both Liverpool goals capitalized on opportunities left by incomplete attempts to play or clear the ball out.

Ayari hits the post, but the defense preserves a clean sheet

Brighton did respond. Jacquet and Araújo made important defensive interventions in turn. In the 36th minute, Liverpool lost possession after a goal kick and Ayari curled a shot against the post. Before halftime, Araújo also had a powerful effort saved, leaving the score at 2–0.

Brighton committed more players forward after the break, giving Liverpool space to counter, but the final pass and finishing brought no further reward. Substitute Nyoni intervened in time to stop De Cuyper's run from deep, while the hosts prevented Brighton from reopening the contest with a goal.
