Arsenal beat Everton 2–0 at the Emirates Stadium on October 24, local time, to move joint top of the Premier League table. Konsa opened the scoring early and Gabriel added another after halftime. Everton suffered successive setbacks, but also had opportunities to change the course of the match between the two goals.
Everton still have equalizing chances after conceding early
Everton's official match report showed that Arsenal's opener came from an Ødegaard corner. After Pickford dealt with the high ball, it struck the crossbar and Konsa finished from close range. The hosts were ahead inside seven minutes.
Everton then sought a response. Tyrique George combined on the left and produced a threatening right-footed shot that was deflected behind. Near halftime, a weak Arsenal header back gave Barry an opportunity, but Raya saved his first-time shot.
That save kept Arsenal's one-goal lead intact. For Everton, falling behind had not immediately ended the contest. Converting limited chances into a goal would determine whether they could force the hosts to respond to a level score.
A far-post header extends the lead as visitors' changes bring no goal
Midway through the second half, Arsenal scored from another delivery. White sent the ball toward the far post and Gabriel headed in to make it 2–0, providing a larger cushion for the lead that the earlier save had preserved.
Everton continued trying to recover. After Mykolenko went off injured, Garner switched to left-back and delivered a cross. Dewsbury-Hall's angled shot from it went narrowly wide, leaving the visitors unable to reduce the gap.
Both goals came from Arsenal defenders: Konsa took the close-range opportunity following a corner, while Gabriel converted a far-post header. Everton also created shooting chances, but failed to equalize at 1–0 and ultimately had to continue chasing from two goals behind.
According to Everton's announced upcoming schedule, they next host Newcastle in the League Cup fourth round on October 29. Kickoff is at 19:45 GMT in Britain, or 03:45 on October 30 China Standard Time (UTC+8). After this defeat, turning counterattacks and chances created from wide areas into goals is an immediate lesson from the match.
