Manchester United lost 3–0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on October 25, extending their winless run in all competitions to eight matches. Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scored for the visitors, who established a two-goal lead before halftime and secured a second successive league win and fourth consecutive victory in all competitions.
Two defensive errors lead to first-half goals
Sky Sports' match report noted that United manager Carrick had named Bruno Fernandes among the substitutes. The reshuffle failed to change United's fortunes. Bournemouth put the hosts under pressure early and converted their advantage into a goal in the 38th minute.
A rash challenge by Heaven conceded a free kick. Kluivert delivered it and Rayan volleyed in at the far post. In the 43rd minute, Yoro slipped and Tavernier took advantage to score again. Just five minutes separated the goals, leaving United 2–0 down at halftime.
Fernandes remains unused as substitutions fail to turn the match
Carrick replaced Tielemans with Matheus Cunha at halftime, without immediately turning to Fernandes. Bournemouth continued to create chances in the second half. Evanilson had a goal disallowed, while Rayan also missed an opportunity to extend the lead.
Lisandro Martínez later replaced Heaven, but United could not prevent a third goal. In the 71st minute, Evanilson reached the ball ahead of goalkeeper Lammens and finished to make it 3–0. Fernandes ultimately remained on the bench throughout.
Carrick told Sky Sports afterward that the team had endured a difficult day, that the players were hurt and disappointed, and that they had to accept their current position. He gave no definite answer about his own next step, saying he would always consider what was best for the club.
United changed midfield and defensive personnel after falling two goals behind, but did not stop the visitors creating further scoring chances. Bournemouth, by contrast, converted a far-post opportunity from a free kick, an opponent's slip and a finish before the goalkeeper could intervene. Scoring at three different stages steadily increased the difficulty of United's attempted recovery.
