The two Friday practice sessions for Round 17 of the 2026 MotoGP season, the Indonesian Grand Prix, concluded on October 9. Marco Bezzecchi led morning FP1 with a 1:30.132. In the afternoon, Raúl Fernández set a new Mandalika lap record of 1:28.725, 0.219 seconds ahead of Bezzecchi, with Jorge Martín third as Aprilia machinery swept the top three in Practice.
FP1: Three title contenders lead
Bezzecchi, Marc Márquez and Martín occupied the top three in morning FP1. Márquez was 0.237 seconds behind, with Martín a further 0.029 seconds back. Acosta was fourth and Fernández fifth. Quartararo, eighth, was the fastest Yamaha rider. Bagnaia finished 13th and completed 24 laps, the most in the session.
Practice: Fernández record, Bagnaia takes final Q2 place
Fernández moved from a late 1:29.252 to 1:28.725. Bezzecchi's 1:28.944 was the other sub-1:29. Martín was third, Acosta fourth and Marc Márquez fifth. Di Giannantonio was sixth, just 0.004 seconds behind Marc Márquez.
Quartararo, Álex Márquez, Morbidelli and Bagnaia completed direct Q2 places. Bagnaia secured the final direct Q2 place with a 1:29.786. Rins was 0.090 seconds behind him and Miller 0.097 seconds back, in 11th and 12th respectively; both must seek advancement through Q1.
Crashes included Aldeguer and Quartararo early, both returning, and Moreira, Álex Márquez and Rins later. Bastianini fell twice. Moreira finished 19th, Bastianini 21st and Ai Ogura 13th; all three must contest Q1.
