After the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix on October 11, Gresini confirmed that Fermin Aldeguer had fractured his right hand and would require surgery. The official team report quoted the MotoGP medical director’s diagnosis: a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal in the right hand.
The diagnosis meant Aldeguer needed further treatment after his Indonesian race weekend. In the team’s Saturday report, he had said repeated crashes made it a difficult weekend, but progressing through Q1 had given him useful mileage and his performance was still improving. After Sunday’s race, the team’s report had shifted its focus to treating his right-hand injury.

In the same Sunday report, team-mate Alex Marquez said using the medium tyre had improved his race pace, but Aprilia had been very strong. He felt the result fell short of expectations, although he still brought home important points, and planned to use the coming break to recover physically.
Gresini’s two riders therefore faced different priorities after the race. Alex Marquez was looking towards recovery and preparation for the next round, while Aldeguer first needed surgery for the fracture in his right hand.
